Share a Map View

Share a specific map view, including your active layers and location, with colleagues or clients using a single link on Maplify.

What Sharing Includes

Send a colleague or client the exact map view you're looking at, complete with location, zoom and active data layers, using a single link — no exports or screenshots needed.

Location and Layers

The shared link preserves your exact location, zoom level and every active data layer, so the recipient opens the same view you were looking at.

Drawings and Measurements

Any drawn shapes or measurements you've made stay visible in the shared view, keeping context intact for the recipient.

How to Share a Map View

  1. Open the map on Maplify and set up the view you want to share.
  2. Enable the data layers relevant to the recipient.
  3. Select the Share tool from the toolbar.
  4. Copy the generated link.
  5. Send it to a colleague or client — they open the same view instantly.

Worked Example

A planning consultant needs a client to see the constraints affecting a site:

  • They enable Green Belt, flood risk and heritage layers over the site, then generate a share link.
  • The client opens the link and can pan, zoom and toggle layers themselves, rather than relying on a static screenshot.
  • This speeds up the initial constraints conversation before a formal report is commissioned.

What a Shared Link Includes

View stateLocation, zoom level and every active data layer at the time you generate the link.
Drawings & measurementsAny drawn shapes or measurements you have made stay visible for the recipient.
AccessRecipients can view the shared link without needing to create an account.

Important Limitations

  • A shared link reflects the view at the time it was generated and does not update if you make further changes afterwards.
  • Recipients can pan and zoom but will need their own account to save the view themselves.
  • Anyone with the link can view it, so avoid sharing sensitive site information publicly.

Frequently Asked Questions

What does sharing a map view include?

A shared link preserves the location, zoom level and active data layers you were viewing, so the recipient sees exactly the same view.

Does the recipient need an account?

They can view the shared map without creating an account, though signing up gives them access to save searches and use the full toolset themselves.

Can I share a drawn shape or measurement?

Yes — if you have drawn a boundary or taken a measurement, sharing the view keeps those visible for the recipient too.

Is sharing a map view free?

Yes, generating a shareable link is free.

How is this different from a site report?

A shared map view is a live, interactive link others can explore themselves; a site report is a fixed document summarising the data for a site — use whichever fits how the recipient needs to use the information.
