Point markerThe Distribution Substations layer selects local distribution-level records from Northern Powergrid’s public Substation Sites List. It is distinct from primary, BSP and GSP sites.
Published attributes may include substation name, mounting type, transformer rating in kVA, primary and secondary voltage, upstream substation and site reference. Fields describing a very small number of customers can be redacted by the publisher.
The layer becomes available at zoom level 13 to avoid showing an incomplete national-scale sample. The map requests pages of records for the area in view and displays a warning if more than 1,000 site records are returned.
Local substations provide useful context for property development, business premises, retrofit, low-carbon heating and electric-vehicle charging feasibility.
Their proximity does not prove which substation serves a building, network capacity for additional load or a feasible connection route.
Use the layer to identify nearby publicly listed assets for further enquiries with the electricity network operator.
For new connections, increased loads or site excavation, obtain current operator records, technical advice and the required safety surveys.
Property and land researchers
Review indicative electricity distribution infrastructure near a candidate site.
EV infrastructure planners
Identify nearby mapped substations before commissioning a formal electrical capacity study.
This layer is commonly checked alongside these related layers.
There are many local distribution sites. Maplify starts loading them at zoom 13 to make local results more useful and avoid a truncated wide-area map.
No. Map proximity cannot establish the serving circuit or the substation assigned to a particular property.
No. A transformer’s rated size and a connection’s available headroom are different things. Confirm capacity with Northern Powergrid.
